Protein Is the Key for Senior Weight Trainers

A Recent study indicate that older individuals who participate in strength training can benefit greatly by consuming a high-protein supplement shortly after the workout.  The well-timed does of protein can enhance the body’s ability to combat muscle loss that comes with aging.

For decades bodybuilders have followed up their weightlifting routines with a protein supplement to help build muscle.  But seniors with similar strength-training workouts do not generally follow up with the protein.  According to Brigitte Esmarck, lead researcher for the study, “I think many older people . . . could benefit tremendously from integrating a well-timed protein intake with their training programs and thereby gain muscle mass and strength.”

To gain the full benefit of the protein supplement, the individual should consume about 10 grams of protein within minutes of finishing the workout.
