Decedent's Same-Sex Life Partner Did Not Have 50% Interest in Shared Home
The Seventh Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals recently affirmed a Tax Court decision that 100% of the value of a house shared by a decedent and her life partner must be included in the decedent’s estate since the life partner failed to prove that she held a beneficial interest in one-half of the property.

Aspirin and Olive Oil May Prevent Certain Types of Cancer
Recent studies in Britain have shown that two common substances may have benefits in the fight against cancer.  Researchers at the Prostate Biology Group at Imperial College and Hammersmith Hospital in London have discovered that aspirin may help prevent prostate cancer in addition to headaches, heart attacks, and strokes.

Clinton Seeks $1 Billion For Nursing Home Grants
President Clinton is calling for an investment of $1 billion to boost staffing at nursing homes. Quoting a report by the Health Care Financing Administration that residents’ care suffers in nursing homes that are too-often understaffed, Clinton said that too many "are not getting the proper care they deserve."

Medicare Administrator Nancy-Ann Min DeParle has announced her resignation effective on October. 1. She will become a fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
