Most Adult Children Concerned
About Senior Housing
and Long-Term Care Options
According
to a recent survey of adult children by the National Investment Center
for the Seniors Housing & Care Industries (NIC), more consumer education
is needed regarding seniors housing and care options.
-
More than 75% of the adult children whose older relatives
resided in seniors housing or long term care were involved in the decision
to obtain this care.
-
Adult children are relatively uninformed about independent
living and assisted living options.
-
Terminology about seniors housing and care continues to be
confusing and inconsistent. Respondents used 22 different kinds of terms
for assisted living communities, 16 different terms for skilled nursing
facilities, and 11 terms for independent living.
