AOA Budget Includes
Help for Caregivers
The Administration on Aging’s (AOA) FY 2001 budget request, included
as part of the President’s FY 2001 Federal Budget request, recognizes the
extraordinary efforts and needs of millions of family caregivers who care
for older relatives.
Of the $1.1 billion requested, $125 million is included to provide assistance,
support services, and quality respite care to thousands of caregivers across
the country. Also, $325 million is included to increase supportive services
for 9.2 million vulnerable and at-risk frail older persons who live alone.
These services include transportation, in-home chore services, and services
provided by adult day care centers.
