Researchers Unveil Latest Weapon
Against Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s: Nicotine!

That’s right, big, bad nicotine may actually have a good side, according to studies that suggest the drug may benefit patients with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other brain disorders.

Though nicotine has gained a negative reputation for contributing to smoking addiction, researchers are testing low-dose patches for use against neurological diseases in both children and the elderly. More studies will be needed, but drug companies are already competing to develop nicotine substitutes that have fewer side effects.

But researchers are quick to point out that nicotine’s expected benefits should not be an excuse to smoke. The risks of smoking outweigh the drug’s medical benefits, and other methods of administration would be superior to smoking.
