U.S. Nursing Home Costs Vary Widely by Region

According to a recent market study by the MetLife Mature Market Institute, the average cost of a nursing home stay in the U.S. is $153 per day. Hibbing, MN had the lowest cost for a private room at $90, while Manhattan had the costliest--$295 per day. The prices depend on supply and demand and the cost of living in each area.

As for the cost of home health care, the study found that on average, an aid charges $16 per hour. Hartford, CT has the highest home health care rates at $24 per hour, while San Antonio, TX has the lowest at $12 per hour. Here are some average costs per region:
