AoA Announces Federal Funds for Caregivers

Citing the tremendous challenges experienced daily by millions of America’s family caregivers, the Administration on Aging (AoA) has announced the availability of funds to meet the needs of those caring for older loved ones who are ill or who have disabilities.

In December 2000, Congress approved a $125 million request to fund the new National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP), a key component of the newly reauthorized Older Americans Act signed into law on November 13, 2000. This program will provide critical support needed by families to assist them in maintaining their caregiver roles.

Funds will be awarded to State Agencies on Aging who will work in partnership with area agencies on aging to implement the formula grant provisions of the new program.
